About BarcodeFont
BarcodeFont is an independent project that makes free tools and plain-language guides for creating barcodes, whether you need a single barcode image or barcodes inside a spreadsheet.
Why this site exists
Barcode fonts look simple: install a font, type your data, done. In practice, most barcodes made this way don't scan, because each barcode type expects its data in a specific format. Code 39 needs asterisks around the text, and Code 128 needs a start character, a checksum and a stop character. BarcodeFont explains these rules clearly and provides tools that handle them for you.
What you'll find here
- Barcode generator: create Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, UPC-A and QR codes and download them as PNG or SVG.
- Barcode fonts: free Code 39, Code 128 and EAN-13 fonts, with install steps for Windows and Mac.
- Code 128 font encoder: converts your text so Code 128 fonts scan in Excel and Word, one value or a whole column at a time.
- Barcodes in Excel: formulas for Code 39, Code 128, EAN-13 and UPC-A, with a free template.
How the tools work
- Everything runs in your browser. The barcode generator creates barcodes on your own device. The data you type is never uploaded or stored.
- No accounts, no limits, no watermarks. The tools are free to use for personal and commercial work.
- Built on open-source software. Barcodes are rendered with bwip-js, and the downloadable fonts come from the Libre Barcode project, released under the SIL Open Font License.
How the content is checked
Every barcode example on this site, including the barcodes typed in barcode fonts, is checked with a barcode reader before it is published. Check digits are calculated with the standard GS1 method used for EAN and UPC codes.
If you find a barcode that doesn't scan, or an explanation that's wrong or unclear, please report it. Corrections are fixed quickly.
